Snack #211- Perri Hot Lips Nice ‘N’ Spicy Flavour

Perri Hot Lips Nice ‘N’ Spicy Flavour

These baked corn puffs were brought to us by a Hot Chick associate who traveled to Ireland.  They are low-calorie and baked instead of fried but the positives pretty much end there.  They are packing peanut consistency and melt in your mouth with no crispiness.  The flavor is extremely mild and there is only the barest hint of tomato and paprika seasonings.  The corn flavor is also dull so this snack basically takes like nothing.  We always enjoy trying international spicy snacks but this one certainly fell flat!

Rating on the Spice-O-Meter: 0/10
Bottom Line: Lip-shaped packing peanuts.

Snack #207-Munchies Jalapeño Cheddar Flavored Snack Mix

Munchies Jalapeño Cheddar Flavored Snack Mix

This mix includes Cheetos, Doritos, Sunchips and pretzels.  The Cheetos are jalapeño cheddar flavor but are very mild.  The Doritos are Poppin’ Jalapeño flavor and also very mildly jalapeño flavored.  The Garden Salsa flavored Sunchips and very sweet with a strong flavor of tomato and not spicy. And the pretzels are just plain pretzels.  Overall this is a mildly cheesy and pepper-flavored snack mix but it is a far cry from spicy.

Rating on the Spice-O-Meter: 1/10
Bottom Line:  Savory snack mix but no heat.

Snack #171- Deep Original Hot Mix

Deep Original Hot Mix

This mix is a LIE.  There is nothing hot about this mix unless you’re talking about what a hot mess it is.  The main components are little noodles and cracker things made out of chickpea flour which always leads to a chalky texture and unpleasant mouth feel.  The rest of the mix is made up of a variety of little crispy beans and nuts which are mostly pretty bland.  The best part of the mix is the lentils which somehow have picked up some flavor from this otherwise lacking snack but they are tiny and not worth picking out of the bag.  There is no real spice to these and only minimal added flavor beyond the nuts and beans.  Very disappointing.

Rating on the Spice-O-Meter: 2/10
Bottom Line: Mushy and not spicy.

Snack #148- Majans Bhuja Original Mix

Majans Bhuja Original Mix

This original mix is similar to the cracker mix but has fewer components and is a little spicier.  The peas and peanuts are pretty basic and not spicy and the raisins are dried out.  Instead of the rice crackers, this mix has a few different shapes of crispy noodles that all taste the same.  The noodles are the only pieces where the spice mix, which includes paprika and turmeric, has stuck enough to taste it.  It’s a nice spice mix but should be spicier.  Overall not a bad mix but the components are boring and the flavoring is weak.

Rating on the Spice-O-Meter: 2/10
Bottom Line: Indian snack mix.

Snack #142- Majans Bhuja Cracker Mix

Majans Bhuja Cracker Mix

This cracker mix has those little Asian rice snacks as well as some d
ried noodles, peas, and beans. The package calls this mix a blend of “spicy snack nibbles” but I have to say these are NOT spicy AT ALL. They definitely have spices on them that are pretty yummy but they need to have more flavor and definitely more heat. The mix is crunchy and has nice textures with the crispy rice pieces and the smoother peanuts and chickpeas. It’s a nice mix but really needs more powerful spices.
Rating on the Spice-O-Meter: 0.5/10
Bottom Line: Tasty Indian spice mix but not spicy.

Snack #9- Chex Mix Hot 'n Spicy

Chex Mix Hot 'n Spicy

This mix is not so spicy. It seems we forgot to take a picture of the actual mix, but it had white and wheat chex, triangle crackers, pretzels, squiggly crackers, and dark bagel chips (pumpernickel? rye? whatever.). In general, it seems that pretzels and crackers don't pick up seasoning very well, so in this mix they detract from the overall spiciness. The triangle crackers were buttery instead of spicy. The Chex were the spiciest part of the mix, probably because they have the most surface area to grab the spicy bits. The white Chex also seemed hotter than the wheat ones, maybe because the wheat flavor is stronger than the white flavor. When a bunch of Chex are eaten without the rest of the mix they can build some heat, but with the whole mix there is only a subtle spice.

Ratings on the Spice-O-Meter:
Chex: 4/10
Mix: 2/10

Bottom Line: Moderately spiced Chex with mild Mix.

Snack #8- Munchies Flamin' Hot Snack Mix

Munchies Flamin' Hot Snack Mix

Composed of Cheetos Flamin' Hot Flavored Snacks, Sunchips Baja Picante Flavored Multigrain Snacks, Doritos Salsa Flavored Tortilla Chips, and Rold Gold Classic Tiny Twists Pretzels. First we rated each component individually:

Flamin' Hot Cheetos- Strong tabasco flavor, nice kick in the beginning, with hot hot heat building afterwards

Baja Picante Sunchips- A little sweet with a tomato flavor, lots of Sunchip flavor, not hot

Salsa Doritos- Tastes like a basic Dorito flavor, but a little spicier and with tomato flavor

Pretzel- Essence of spice

Overall the mix was not so hot, the pieces tasted more like the original flavor with the exception of the Cheetos which are very spicy. When eaten like a mix, the other pieces counteract the spice of the Cheetos, but alone the Cheetos build strong cumulative heat. The Doritos and Sun Chips have a little spice but only the Cheetos have real heat. The pretzels have no additional spice flavor added.

Ratings on the Spice-O-Meter:

  • Cheetos: 6.5
  • Doritos: 3
  • Sunchips: 2
  • Pretzels: 1

Bottom Line: The Cheetos are HOT!
